Water Saving In The Spray Pave Industry

While I was stripping paint off a job the other day watching the water from my high pressure cleaner go down the drain I thought there has to be better ways to save water in our industry !! So I have decided to open a forum on the subject to see peoples ideas on how we can save water.
First I will explain our water usage as it is an integral part of what we do. We use water in most of the applications in spray pave and resealing. Water is used in mixing the compounds that we use to prepare spray pave, we also use water to clean down after acid etching and cleaning off driveways.
When we reseal a decorative concrete driveway we use water. The only application that I can see that we cannot change our water habits are in the mixing of compounds as they require clean water in most cases.
Some tips and ideas we have been looking into are

  • Sandblasting to remove paint on concrete

  • The use of high litre high pressure cleaners and high pressure as hey require less time to complete the task at hand

One area when i am stumped is how to reduce water consumption when cleaning a driveway for resealing ECT as it is required to be cleaned down prior to the application of new seal and due to the nature of decorative concrete sandblasting would only damage the concrete.

I invite comment from others in the Spray Pave industry and everyone who takes the time to read this forum. We are a responsible company and this issue will not go away in Australia as we are facing the worst drought on record.

Lets all help each other regardless of weather we are in competition with each other lets be leaders in the area of responsible water use
